I studied physics at the University of Florence, Italy and graduated in atomic physics. I continued studying high-temperature superconductors with Raman spectroscopy at the George Washington University, Washington D.C., USA first and the Technical University of Munich, Germany from which I received my Ph.D. in physics. I worked in different companies in Switzerland with roles from project manager to head of R&D product development for ten years. This gave me insights in industrial research and product development. In 2013 I joined the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Physics of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (Switzerland), where I am now a full professor of applied optics. I teach different courses at Bachelor and Master level and do applied research in close contact with industrial partners.

Singe 2018 I am a co-founder of TOELT LLC, a company focusing on research on the application of AI to physical problems.
